Chisholm Trail to have full closure on Wednesday, Jan. 31

Published on January 25, 2024 under RRnews

Chisholm Trail will be closed between Sunset Drive and RM 620 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31.

The closure will allow contractors to install signage on the pedestrian bridge for the Heritage Trail West project.

The Heritage Trail West project will complete an approximately 1-mile section of trail from just west of Chisholm Trail Road to Mays Street. This project also includes an overlook along Brushy Creek, improvements to several parks and the inclusion of historical and recreational elements. The goal is to create a connected, accessible and informative space for residents and visitors alike, highlighting the history of Round Rock and providing new recreational opportunities. The project is expected to be completed by mid-2024.

The design of the bridge serves as a link between generations of Round Rock residents. Originally used for wagons to cross in the 1800s, the bridge will continue to play an important role in the City’s development as part of the new Heritage Trail project. Visitors will be able to safely view the “round rock” from viewing platforms on the bridge and will have a more safe way to cross Chisholm Trail Road and Brushy Creek as a result of the project.

Construction of Lake Creek Trail is also ongoing following voter approval of the May 2023 G.O. Bonds. The completed trail will include a 10-foot-wide path running from Round Rock West Park to Centennial Plaza, pedestrian underpass at IH-35, a bridge over Lake Creek and other amenities along the trail.
