How residents can prepare
- Be sure to take care of people, pipes, pets and plants.
- Trickle water from one faucet in your home during freezing temperatures. If your pipes burst, turn off water flow into the home at the shut-off valve located by your meter and then call a plumber to make the repair.
- Turn off your irrigation/sprinkler systems to avoid damage and freezing due to the cold temperatures that are being forecast. Runoff from sprinklers causes hazardous conditions on roadways. Learn about preparing your pipes and water system for the winter weather ahead at roundrocktexas.gov/water-spot/2022/01/winter-ready-water-system.
- Register your cell phone number and/or email address with Warn Central Texas to receive emergency alerts from local officials by text, phone and/or email. The program is available in Williamson County and surrounding counties through the Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG). Register now at warncentraltexas.org.
- Stock up on winter weather basics (hint: multiple packs of toilet paper is not included). Learn more about what to pack in your pantry, car and more: roundrocktexas.gov/the-quarry/2022/01/ditch-the-steaks-and-toilet-paper-heres-what-you-need-to-prepare-for-winter-weather.
- Wear layers and gloves when going outside to avoid the risk of hypothermia.
